Captain Rashawn Worrell was among the players to stake early claims for places on the Barbados team in this year’s West Indies Under-17 Cricket Tournament.

Worrell hit a century to lead his team to a comprehensive 163-run victory over Seth Agard’s XI in the first Barbados Under-17 trial match at Friendship on Wednesday.

Left-hander Worrell smashed 14 fours and two sixes in scoring 105 off 85 balls as his team amassed a massive 312 for eight in 50 overs. He got excellent support from Matthew Forde, who lashed nine fours and four sixes in a knock of 87.

In reply, Agard’s side folded for 149 in 32.2 overs with Rivaldo Clarke getting the top score of 52 off 61 balls. Off-spinner Nicholas Austin took four wickets for 27 runs.

Fast bowler Romario Brathwaite and left-arm spinner Tremaine Dowrich both grabbed four-wicket hauls in the second trial on Tuesday at Desmond Haynes Oval while opener Agard made an unbeaten 60 in the third trial at Queen’s Park on Thursday. (EZS)
