UPDATED: Old Ministry of Health building on fire, residents urged to evacuate

8:40 a.m. update: The flames have been brought under control but there is still some smouldering. There appears to be no damage to nearby structures. Fire officers remain on the scene.

The old Ministry of Health building on Jemmotts Lane, St Michael has gone up in flames.

The Barbados Fire Service received the call around 5:30 a.m. and when they arrived the building was already engulfed in flames.

Residents living immediately downwind of Jemmotts Lane have been asked to evacuate as a precaution.

This includes residents of London Bourne Towers, Nelson Street and surrounding areas. (BN)
