Keys back with BARVEN

The keys to the bathrooms are back in the hands of the president of BARVEN, heading off a clash between vendors and the Ministry of Agriculture over washroom facilities.

Friday the run-in was blamed on a lack of communication at Cheapside and the Ministry of Agriculture over portable toilets.

Initial reports were that new locks were placed on the mobile toilets at the Barbados Association of Retailers, Vendors and Entrepreneurs (BARVEN) Temporary Outdoor Market, in The City.

President of the association, Alister Alexander, said the toilets were locked just before noon last week and the 70 vendors had to use the facilities of other businesses.

Yesterday, although Alexander explained that the issue was resolved, he said he did not agree with the way the situation was handled.

Alexander added that the affairs of the vendors were not taken seriously enough and going forward the association needed to be properly informed about changes.

The ministry changed the contractor who supplied the initial mobile toilets and he was given the new keys on Monday. (SB)
