Chelsea Tuach is now making waves on the other side of the world.
Barbados’ most decorated international surfer successfully took her talents to Asia after blazing her way through of 24 top female competitors from Asia, Australia and Hawaii to win the Renex Asian Surf Pro at Kuta Beach, Bali, in Indonesia.
It was an impressive showing from the No.1 ranked surfer on the WSL Women’s Regional Qualification Series rankings.
Tuach dazzled the judges with her fluid, powerful surfing on the glassy rights and lefts on offer to win all her heats with scores in the good to excellent range.
She then scored a 6.83 and a 6.77 for a heat total of 13.60 to beat local girl Dhea Nataysa, who finished with 11.83.
“I’m so happy I joined this event. I’m staying just across the street so I surf Halfway every morning and afternoon,” said Tuach.
“It is great training for me for the QS and I have had so much fun surfing this event.
“Seeing how good these Asian women surf, like the Koreans, Chinese, Japanese, and Indonesians, is great, and having a girls’ competition with just 24 surfers on this side of the world is awesome.Â
“I just want to say a big thank you to all the organisers and sponsors of the event, the online viewers and, of course, to my support crew at home,” she added.
The event was webcast live over the Internet to millions of viewers around the world.
Tuach will remain in Indonesia to train until her next big event in Mexico next month. (JM/PR)
