Barbados has two leaders – one who is on the cusp of creating history and one who will be riding off into the sunset – on the wrong side of history.
That is how former Barbados Labour Party government minister, Rudolph “Cappy” Greenidge has analysed BLP Leader Mia Mottley and Prime Minister Freundel Stuart.
Giving what he called “a little history lesson” at the BLP’s meeting at Lodge Road, Christ Church on Wednesday night, Greenidge opined that Mottley would go down in history on the right side while Stuart will go down for all the wrong reasons.
“Mia Amor Mottley will be the first female to lead the Barbados Labour Party and lead it to a spectacular victory, being the first female Prime Minister,” he told the crowd to thunderous applause.
In addition, he said she would also be the first female Minister of Finance.
On the other hand, Greenidge charged that Stuart will also make history but for all the wrong reasons.
“Can we put the name of Freundel Stuart on the same page as Errol Barrow, Tom Adams and Arthur? No,” Greenidge said as he charged that history will reveal Stuart as a procrastinator.
He went on to remind the gathering that Barbados received 23 downgrades under Stuart’s leadership.
He also referred to Stuart as “too timid” and “too scared” to act.
For instance, he said Stuart had failed to reshuffle his Cabinet “to bring a freshness to certain Ministries that were crying for change especially the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Education”.
He also gave the Prime Minister a historical fail for refusing to deal with the infamous “eager 11” adding that he also “did not have the guts to name a Deputy Prime Minister”.
While Greenidge referred to Stuart as an “accidental leader who was in the right place at the right time,” of Mottley, he said, “she went through the hottest fires and she became the finest steel”. (MB)
