Golden moments at soca show
The 2019 Holetown Festival closed in fine style when the Soca Gold Concert And Fashion Show came off on Sunday night at the Holetown Complex, metres away from the monument.
Red Plastic Bag
graced the stage just after 10 p.m. and received a very warm reception from the scores of patrons who attended the show.
The multi-crown winner instantly got a rise out of the mature crowd when Ragga Ragga was tuned up.
He followed up the classic with last year’s release I Am Alive. It was at this moment that everyone automatically threw their hands in the air and sang along. And by the time he finished with Something’s Happenin’, the audience were on their feet dancing.
His performance came after that of Grynner, who was his usual highspirited self. Despite a technical difficulty at the beginning of Turn On De Speaker which had some scratching their heads for a bit, the Road March King still entertained. He also performed Leggo I Hand and Walk And Wine.
There were also performances by reigning calypso monarch Mr Blood, People’s Monarch Mikey, who sang Feteing Family, and Adrian Clarke, who performed Soca You.
They were all backed by the Royal Barbados Police Force Band.
Whereas the singers brought the vocals,
Queen Archibull Cox
brought the jokes.
Each of these performances came after a fashion show in which the former queens of the festival, including reigning title holder Sheryl Forde, dazzled the crowd. (TG)
