Winning games and improving the standard of the sport are two of the main goals of newly appointed head coach of the Barbados senior national football team, Russell “Little Magician” Latapy.

The former Trinidad and Tobago legendary attacking midfielder officially took up the role yesterday morning and was introduced during a press conference at the Barbados Football Association’s (BFA) Wildey, St Michael headquarters.

While technical director of the team, Ahmed Mohamed, will take charge for the final time on Sunday after 18 months, as Barbados host Nicaragua in their final game of the CONCACAF Nations League Qualifers, Latapy outlined his short- and long-term plans for the national programme.

“I will do my best to improve the level of the team and whatever I can do to assist in the improvement of Barbadian football and football in the region. That is one of our main goals as well, which gives the young players a chance to play professionally and improve their lives. This is what football has done for me and I [would] like to pass on some of my experience and give some of these players the opportunity to do the same,” he said. (AGB)
