Bajan U-19s keep heads above water
Barbados’ Under-19 boys washed off a disappointing opening day of CARIFTAwater polo by torpedoing Bonaire 14-4 when the regional event began yesterday at the Aquatic Centre.
The morning battles highlighted the dominance of aquatic giants Trinidad and Tobago and The Bahamas with the Bajans losing three age group categories to T& T and underscoring coach’s Ryan Forde’s view that his lesser experienced charges would struggle in those groups.
“Those are two new teams with kids playing for the last six months. But as sports go, you learn from the more games that you play. In those games the scores were close in the first quarter but as the opponents scored our mental and fitness dropped, so we need to pick it up.
“On the other hand, the 19 and under boys have been playing much longer and if you score on them they come back at you and when they score they want to continue scoring. But that only comes with game time. (KB)
