AS CARIBBEAN AIRLINES prepares for its inaugural non-stop flight from Jamaica to Barbados, the chief executive officer of the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA) says the additional airlift will be a boost for tourism arrivals from that Caribbean island.
Senator Rudy Grant made the comments as he joined officials from the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI), representatives from a number of travel agencies and members of the media in Jamaica yesterday.
Stressing that the additional airlift was going to be very positive, he said one of the most critical elements of success for any destination was airlift. “When there is additional airlift coming out of a source market, it is always very positive and a good thing,” he told the NATION. “It will require, of course, that we, the Ministry of Tourism, the BTMI and the BHTA . . . collaborate in terms of the promotion and marketing that we do in terms of this very important source market.”
Grant noted visitor arrival numbers from Jamaica were increasing and with direct flights, Barbados had an opportunity to grow those numbers “a bit more in a very targeted and segmented way, to be able to secure the kind of visitor coming out of this market”.
