Welcome The People’s Party
Barbados’ newest political party was presented to the country today.
The People’s Party for Democracy and Development was launched at a 90-minute introduction session at The Pavilion, Hastings, Christ Church.
Party leader and president, Bishop Joseph Atherley said the new entity would have a socialist, democratic orientation, and would focus on a type of governance aimed at producing a liberal, mixed economy.
With Senator Caswell Franklin to his right, and Senator Crystal Drakes to his left, Atherley said the party has already put its election wheels into motion, and confirmed a number of Barbadians were very interested in competing for a spot to run in the next general election.
The PdP leader said since the party was formed last November, persons continue to show a great interest, and new members were joining up each week.
The PdP’s official colour is green, and its motto is God, Growth, Greatness.
