Barbados under flood watch
The Barbados Metrological Office has advised that it has replaced the flash flood warning issued earlier today with a flash flood watch.
The BMS explained in a statement, “Showers and isolated thunderstorms continued to affect the northern and central sections of island during the late afternoon due to strong daytime heating, light winds and moisture induced by a trough system.”
Analysis of satellite and radar imagery indicates that the trough system is now inducing additional moisture to the area and this could result in more widespread showers across the island, tonight and early tomorrow.
Thus, the flash flood warning has been replaced by a flash flood watch for Barbados, which will be in effect from 5:30 p.m. today until 6:00 a.m. tomorrow.
A flash flood watch means that flooding due to heavy or excessive rainfall in a short period of time (generally less than six hours) is possible within the watch area during the period.
Those in flood-prone areas should remain on the alert and take all necessary precautions. (PR)
