TORONTO – Veteran rider Patrick Husbands’ form showed little sign of waning as he reeled off a season-leading 12th stakes win at Woodbine on Sunday, after bringing 9-5 favourite Lift Up with a flying late run to capture the CAN$120 000 Belle Mahone Stakes.

Going a mile and sixteenth for the three-year-olds and upward, Husbands powered the Michael Dickinson-trained five-year-old bay mare into contention in the upper stretch before winning a three-way battle to reach the wire by a neck in a time of one minute, 43.57 seconds.

For the 46-year-old Husbands, who suffered a season-ending fall last November and was forced to undergo a couple of surgeries before returning to action here in April, the victory was his third in the race following triumphs in 2011 and 2016.

“I got a nice trip,” said Husbands, a seven-time Woodbine champion. (CMC)
