Spartans square series

St Philip team Spartans are poised to create local basketball history.

After squaring the best-of-three Division 1 finals by defeating the University of the West Indies Blackbirds 70-63 in Game 2 at the Wildey Gymnasium on Tuesday night, they are now just one more victory away from becoming the first team from the rural parish to gain promotion to the Barbados Amateur Basketball Association’s Premier League.

Game 3 is set for the Wildey Gym at 7:30 p.m. and should the Church Village-based Spartans win, they would also stop the Blackbirds from flying in another top-flight sporting division.

UWI had easily triumphed in Game 1 at the Barbados Community College Gym on Saturday night 86-53 but the Spartans impressively rebounded to level the series. (KB)
