Workers from the construction arm of the Jada Group downed tools at three sites across Barbados this morning, protesting working conditions and time.
Work came to a halt at Pilgrim Road, Christ Church; the Nightengale Children’s Home in Black Rock, St Michael and at The Mount, St George.
Barbados Workers’ Union shop steward Nelson Croal (below) told Nation News there were several grievances.
These include not getting overtime, Saturday being made a work day instead of an option and working only three days a week for several weeks.
The majority of the workers, who are from St Vincent and the Grenadines and Guyana, said this was not what they signed up for.
When a Nation team visited the Christ Church site, they were waiting on a representative from the BWU. (MB)
