Sada Williams gave it her best shot, but fell short of qualifying for the women’s 400 metres final at the IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar.

Williams clocked a personal best 51.31 seconds to finish fourth in her semi-final heat. With the top two automatically guaranteed a spot in the final, she was facing an uphill task and fell to tenth out of 24 starters on conclusion of the third and final heat.

Her previous best was 51.46.

Williams’ race was won by Olympic champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo in 49.66 seconds to lead all qualifiers.

Meanwhile, Tia-Adana Belle’s season came to a disappointing close after she finished seventh in the fifth and final heat of the women’s 400m hurdles. Her time of 57.37 seconds placed her 33 out of the 36 starters.

Shane Brathwaite is the last Barbadian in competition. He will line up in lane 8 of the first heat of tomorrow’s semi-finals of the 110m hurdles, hunting a spot in the final later in the night. (SAT)
