Met Office monitoring sea conditions

Sea conditions are expected to deteriorate over the next few days and officials at the Met Office say a high-surf advisory and small-craft warning may be issued for Barbados on Wednesday.

A strong high pressure system centred over the central North Atlantic is forecast to generate easterly to east north-easterly surface winds of 20 to 25 knots (37 to 46 km/h), and easterly to east north-easterly swells peaking near 3.5m (11ft).

Marine models indicate sea conditions could deteriorate from late Thursday into the following week and the advisory may be issued.

Large waves and dangerous rip-currents during this time could create unsafe conditions for small-craft operators, particularly on the eastern, northern-eastern and south-eastern coastlines of Barbados. These conditions could become even more adverse during high tide.

All residents are advised to pay special attention for any updates from the Barbados Meteorological Services. (PR/SAT)
