LEADER of the Opposition Bishop Joseph Atherley has put electoral and constitutional reform high on the list of matters on which he plans to focus this year.
Atherley noted these were among critical areas demanding the attention of the one-man Opposition in Parliament, when he addressed guests at a reception he hosted at his offices in the West Wing of Parliament last Saturday.
He said though there was only one Opposition member in the Lower House and two in the Senate, “we plan to be constructive”.
In the last general elections Atherley successfully contested the St Michael West seat on a Barbados Labour Party ticket, but declared himself an Independent after the elections and assumed the position of Opposition Leader in a Parliament in which the opposing Democratic Labour Party had failed to win even one seat.
