Chinese Gao Yang set a new National Stadium All Comers’ record of 18.50 metres while qualifying for the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, at the Joseph Payne Memorial Athletics Classic yesterday at the National Stadium.

In the process, Yang also qualified for the World Indoor Championship in the Peoples Republic of China in March.

Compatriot Tan Shen also created a buzz with a big throw of 54.70 metres to set a meet record in the men’s discus.

Two Barbadian athletes, Rising Stars’ Jadon Pearce and Rowland Kirton-Browne put themselves in consideration for CARIFTA Games’ selection in Bermuda with impressive early performances. (EZS)
