School’s out at Vauxhall

VAUXHALL PRIMARY SCHOOL will be fixed and parents are pleased, but it will mean the more than 300 children will have to stay home for the rest of this week in the first instance.

This was the outcome of yesterday’s meeting between upset parents and education officials, led by Minister of Education Santia Bradshaw.

On Tuesday the parents decided they would not allow their children back onto the Christ Church school’s compound until action was taken to address issues such as rat droppings and bird faeces around the compound, cockroach and termite infestation, blocked and overflowing drains, broken perimeter fencing and a leaking roof.

That day, only six of the 24 teachers attended classes. Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) president Adrian Husbands called on Government to deal with the issues posing a health hazard to both students and teachers.

A release issued by the ministry, shortly after midnight yesterday, acknowledged the issues but said the school was overrun by woodworms and not termites.
