14 new trailers to help speed up crop
Barbados’ 2020 sugar cane harvest will start tomorrow.
And it will take less time for canes to be transported from the fields to the factory.
Yesterday, during a press conference at the Ministry of Agriculture, Graeme Hall, Christ Church, to announce the start of the harvest season, agricultural officer at the Agronomy Research and Variety Testing Unit, Anderson Eversley said a new system was being used to make cane delivery timelier.
He said 14 new tipping trailers were imported from Guatemala for $1.2 million and they would foster a speedy delivery of this year’s estimated 93 000 tonnes of cane to Portvale sugar factory in Blowers, St James.
“Approximately 93 000 tonnes of sugar cane would be sent to the factory this year,” he said. (SB)
