Government will be buying more kits to test individuals for coronavirus (Covid-19) as the deadly illness continues to spread worldwide.
Acting director of the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory, Songee Beckles, revealed that up to yesterday, Barbados “could probably do another 80 tests”.
Beckles said the Pan-American Health Organisation (PAHO) was expected to provide Barbados with additional reagents permitting a further 300 to 400 tests to be conducted if required, but added these might not be enough.
As a result, she said more Covid-19 testing kits were being ordered, while Minister of Health Jeffrey Bostic added facilities were being prepared to add 71 beds to supplement the six now available in the isolation centre at Enmore, St Michael. (SC)
