GOVERNMENT is embarking on a programme to train more Barbadians to become jockeys and grooms.
Minister of Sport John King told NATIONSPORT, that horse racing had a bright future and Government would play its part in developing more jockeys and grooms.
“I am so proud of a lot of the young men who have found themselves not only in Barbados working but working in Canada and other places. For me, it is just unbelievable.
“So, my ministry along with the Ministry of Youth, is seeking to put a programme together, where we can get people to come out and actually train more individuals to be jockeys and grooms and see if they can find work for them, not only in Barbados but in the region and outside,” King said.
King, 55, who has been Minister of Sport for the last two years, said the recent Sandy Lane Gold Cup was a success.
