Former Barbados Labour Party parliamentarian Joseph “Joe” Edghill has died.

Edghill, who had suffered from dementia for the last five years, passed away today in hospital where he had been detained for six weeks following surgery. He was 73.

A pharmacist by profession, Edghill represented the constituency of Christ Church West Central from 1994 to 2008. His work as a community leader was honoured last year with the naming of the Joseph “Joe” Edghill Play Park in Gall Hill after him.

He was well known in that community for his support for football teams, including the Pride of Gall Hill, which earned him the title “Father of Gall Hill”.

At the start of her national address this evening, acting Prime Minister Santia Bradshaw expressed condolences on behalf of the country and said a more appropriate tribute would be made. (GC)
