The Queen Elizabeth Hospital is looking for retired nurses and nursing assistants to bolster its resources.
Executive chairman Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland first made the appeal in a post on social media on Sunday.
“In light of the growing number of cases, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital needs to be proactive and get ahead of the curve. We’re looking to expand our pool of sessional nurses to create a list of retired or private sector nurses, who are willing to work four-hour sessions if called upon.
“This pool will allow us to benefit from experienced nurses who can help their colleagues and prevent our nurses from burning out. They can also fill in for unexpected sick leave and fill other critical gaps,” she explained.
She said there were also vacancies for full-time registered nurses, not nursing assistants or health aides.
“We do not take transfers of nurses from the Psychiatric Hospital, Geriatric Hospital or polyclinics as it leaves them terribly short,” she added. (RA)
