25 new COVID cases

Barbados recorded 25 new positive cases of COVID-19 on Friday, January 29, out of 488 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory.

Sixteen people recovered from the viral illness and were discharged from isolation. There are now 372 active cases.

The 25 new cases comprise 13 women and 12 men. One of them is from Her Majesty’s Prison Dodds, a male inmate. Four were previously sent to the Harrison’s Point Isolation Facility in St Lucy for assessment. Of the other 20 cases, 17 were identified as Barbadian nationals.

The new positive case at HMP Dodds brings the total at the institution to 362, with 355 recovered. The remaining seven people are included in the active cases count.

To date, Barbados has recorded 1 523 confirmed cases – 622 females and 901 males – and 1 139 persons have recovered. Twelve people died.

The public health laboratory has so far completed 102 163 tests. (BGIS)
