Crews from the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) will be addressing “absolute emergencies” only from today until further notice.
A media release said this is “being taken out of an abundance of caution to protect the Authority’s staff in the field and its equipment”.
The BWA also advises that it has no plans to shut off the island’s water supply.
“The Authority operates a water distribution network which is a closed system. This means that our infrastructure is not exposed or vulnerable to any ash fall being experienced,” the release said.
Barbados continues to experience ashfall following a series of explosive eruptions at La Soufriere volcano in St Vincent and the Grenadines which have severely limited visibility.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Kenneth George urged residents to remain indoors and those who must be outside or have respiratory issues should take all precautions.
