Barbadian hurdler Hannah Connell finished out of the medals at the North American, Central American and Caribbean Under-18 & Under-23 Athletics Championships on Saturday morning in Costa Rica.
Connell, the lone female in the Barbados team attending the Games, finished fourth in the Under-23 women’s sprint hurdles in a time of 14.08 seconds at the National Stadium in San Jose.
The 21-year-old would have been disappointed with her time, after running a season’s best of 13.07.
In a race where the top four places were swept by athletes from English-speaking Caribbean nations, Daszay Freeman of Jamaica took the gold medal, when she clocked 13.80 secs, eight hundredths-of-a-second faster than silver medal-winner Chrisma Taylor of The Bahamas, whose compatriot Sasha Wells claimed the bronze with a time of 13.94.
Later on Saturday, Barbadian quarter-miler Jonathan Jones will contest the Under-23 men’s 400 metres, with a season’s best time of 45.35 under his belt. (AR)
