Police in Guyana seeking armed men after discovery of marijuana plants

Georgetown – The police are searching for two armed men following the discovery of 20 000 marijuana plants in the East Berbice-Corentyne region on Friday.

In addition to the marijuana, they discovered a quantity of dry cannabis and seeds ammunition and other equipment.

According to a police report, early Friday they conducted an eradication exercise and on arriving at the location they saw two men armed with firearms.

Those men fled into nearby bushes but when chased by the police officers, they opened fire.

The police returned fire; no one was hurt and the men eventually disappeared.

The camps and marijuana plants, dry cannabis and seeds were all destroyed while the other items were taken to a police station.
