The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) is closely monitoring the progress of a tropical wave located near 43W or about 1 765 km (1 095 miles) east of Barbados at 5 p.m. on Thursday.

The Met Office said however, that there are no watches or warnings in effect.

“During the afternoon, the structure of the system on satellite imagery has shown some sign of organisation, although it lacks a closed circulation at this time. However, gradual development of this system is possible as it moves generally west-northwest at about 20 mph across the central Atlantic.

“Current forecast tracks indicate that this system should pass well north of Barbados late Saturday into early Sunday morning.”

Members of the public are asked to monitor updates from the BMS on this system over the next 24 to 36 hours. The next update will be at 6 a.m. on Friday, August 13, or sooner if conditions warrant. (PR)
