Business ease

Barbados’ efforts to increase the ease of doing business have received a major boost in the form of an agreement between Government and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) for the full implementation of the Electronic Single Window across key governmental agencies for trade.

The project is expected to be completed within 13 months and will cut out a significant amount of red tape which import and export businesses must deal with on a daily basis.

Currently, trade facilitation in Barbados, be it import or export, involves the interfacing of around 28 agencies, which under the Electronic Single Window will be managed at a single point.

Signing the agreement with UNCTAD’s Secretary General Rebeca Grynspan, which took place at the end of the second day of the four-day conference being held at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Minister of Energy, Small Business and Entrepreneurship Kerrie Symmonds heralded the development as a game-changer for business facilitation.
