West Indies’ captain Kieron Pollard says injury-prone all-rounder Andre Russell is critical to the Caribbean cricketers successfully defending their ICC Twenty20 World Cup title.
Pollard, however, pointed out the West Indies’ management will have to assess Russell’s fitness when he joins the team’s camp ahead of the tournament starting in the United Arab Emirates and Oman on October 23.
Russell has not played for his franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League since September 26 due to a hamstring injury.
“Before I make any assumptions as to what he can or he can’t do, we need to do our assessment first as a team,” Pollard said during a Zoom media conference from the team’s training base in Dubai, yesterday. (EZS)
