The record of the appeal is now in the hands of the judges, and attorneys for both sides in the Alex Tasker extradition case will have a chance to submit further written submissions.

As a result, the appeal brought by the former vice president of the Insurance Corporation of Barbados Ltd. (ICBL) against his Magistrates’ Court-ordered extradition was adjourned by the Court of Appeal yesterday.

It was on September 8, last year, that Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes ordered Tasker, of Mayfair Terrace, Leadvale, Christ Church, extradited to the United States to face a trial for conspiracy to launder money and two counts of money laundering between August 2015 and April 2016.

The Chief Magistrate had advised Tasker that under the law, his surrender could not take place until 15 days had passed. (HLE)
