Barbados’ track and field star Sada Williams ended her most glittering athletics season yesterday with a third-place finish and cash prize of U.S. $7 000 in the women’s 400 metres at the World Athletics Diamond League Finals in Zurich, Switzerland.

Williams, the world bronze medallist and Commonwealth Games champion and record holder, once again dipped under 50 seconds (for the fifth time this year) clocking 49.98 to secure the third position.

Tokyo 2020 Olympic silver medallist Marileidy Paulino produced a new national record and world leading time of 48.99 seconds for victory and U.S. $30 000, while her Dominican Republic countrywoman Fiordaliza Cofil crossed the line in 49.93 seconds to snatch U.S. $12 000.
