Flash-flood watch in the north

Date:

Share post:

A flash-flood watch is in effect for northern districts of Barbados until 5 p.m. today.

This alert may be discontinued sooner, if conditions warrant, says the Barbados Meteorological Services.

A flash-flood watch is issued when heavy or excessive rainfall in a short period of time (generally less than six hours) could result in flash-flooding within the watch area, but it does not mean that flooding will occur.

The surface to low-level trough currently affecting the island has caused a reduction in wind speeds that are expected to persist throughout the day.

This light wind regime, in combination with daytime heating and available low-level moisture, is expected to generate localised activity across the north of the island.

Maximum Rainfall Accumulations of 25 to 50 mm in moderate to heavy showers are expected. (PR/SAT)
