Guns, domestic violence concern cops

The continued proliferation of firearms and the “scourge” of domestic violence are two of the major issues the Barbados Police Service is focused on, says Commissioner Richard Boyce.

In giving a review of 2023 yesterday during the first day of their two-day annual grand conference at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Boyce said domestic violence incidents did not appear to be on the decline.“

Another social problem that has engaged our attention in 2023 is the scourge of domestic violence. Notwithstanding the fact . . . the intent of the law seeks to make greater provision for the safety of victims of domestic violence and hold perpetrators accountable for their actions, and despite the greater intervention of the police in these cases, there is no evidence to suggest any abatement of these complaints,” he said.

Boyce said there were 572 reported cases of domestic violence compared to 471 in 2022, with the most prevalent acts being assault and woundings, which made up 55 per cent of the cases. (CA)

  1. Women need to be more selected when selecting partners.
And run don’t walk when a man hit them the first time.
Also be financial sufficient and don’t rely on a man for support.

I’ve watched my mother being hit and mentally abused…. From my dad!
As far back from childhood until I was well into my adult years.
I promised myself that I wasn’t going to accept anyone hitting me.
Well, at age twenty or about, I met a man who gave me a black eye.
I knew then and there that he wasn’t someone I wanted a life with.
So I break it off with him…. in person.
Big mistake; I was chocked and almost killed for attempting to leave.
What save my life was speed?…(I was a runner in my school days)
Some men have to abused women to make themselves feel good.
Because they are weak, little BOYS who get their jollies from hurting women.
And it doesn’t matter what you do for them they are never happy.
It seems as though they are cursed.
